Baseball: City Section teams begin season early

City Section teams are permitted to start their baseball season today, two weeks before the Southern Section.
The Poly Classic will begin on Wednesday. First-year coaches at Kennedy and at Taft have their debuts, with Taft playing at Arleta and Kennedy hosting Verdugo Hills. The best game has Sylmar at Cleveland on Wednesday.
Chatsworth, expected to challenge El Camino Real for the Division I title, is playing next Saturday in a doubleheader against host Carson.
Most teams begin on Feb. 27 with tournaments.
