Matt LaCour, who enjoyed great success as baseball coach at El Camino Real and now Harvard-Westlake, is stepping down to become athletic director, the school announced on Monday.
Assistant Jared Halpert is the new baseball coach. Halpert is a former Chatsworth player.
“I’m thrilled it is me,” Halpert said of his selection as head coach. “We’re going to keep things going in the right direction.”
Halpert, an assistant since 2011, has been running the Wolverines’ summer program.
LaCour has been Harvard-Westlake’s coach since 2006. He guided the Wolverines to a Southern Section Division 1 championship two seasons ago.
Harvard-Westlake is one of the few schools that has multiple individuals in charge of athletics. Terry Barnum is head of athletics. LaCour is replacing Terry Elledge, who retired.
