Baseball: Sophomore Nick Kahle stamps himself as player to watch

With five teams in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs, the Mission League has already demonstrated its strength, and sophomore catcher Nick Kahle of West Hills Chaminade is having the type of season that should propel him to prominence in the coming years.

He had 43 hits in the regular season and a .500 batting average with two home runs, 10 doubles and 26 RBIs.

He’s also a top defensive player. Oregon State and Washington have offered scholarships.

“He’s a mature player,” Coach Frank Mutz said. “He knows the game real well and has one of the best approaches for a hitter I’ve seen in a long time.”

Chaminade has a first-round playoff game at Foothill on Friday.
