After trailing by 10 points in the second quarter and nine points in the third quarter, Dorsey players decided to pick up their defensive intensity and rallied for a 49-44 victory over Taft in a quarterfinal game of the Westchester tournament on Wednesday.
Lafayette Dorsey scored 18 points and Tommie Groce added 15 points. Jovan Roaches-Lambey made a major contribution with his all-out defense on Taft point guard Kihei Clark, who finished with 11 points.
“We saw we were down,” Dorsey said. “We didn’t want to lose to a rivalry game. We picked it up on offense and defense.”
Both schools figure to be stronger when transfers become eligible.
Bishop Montgomery defeated Hart, 59-50. Morningside defeated North Torrance, 61-59.
