Chino Hills trio in action at Fairfax this week

It’s the one week of summer basketball where teams are usually at full strength and fans get to see the best going against the best.
That’s possible at this week’s Fairfax tournament that begins with first-round games on Monday and Tuesday at Fairfax High.
For example, Crespi Coach Russell White had been giving four his key players the summer off to rest after their season didn’t end until late March following the state Division IV championship win. But this past weekend, De’Anthony Melton, Brandon Williams, Taj Regans and Mitch Mykhaylov returned and are expected to be available this week.
Then there’s Chino Hills, which won the Maranatha tournament Gold Division championship in the first week that three Ball brothers played together.
Mater Dei will be in the tournament, and if MJ Cage is available, his presence will make the Monarchs tough to beat. Sierra Canyon will get back this week several players who have been away at camps. And Maranatha is expected to have Trevor Stanback in its lineup.
Opening games on Monday: Maranatha vs. Long Beach Poly, 3 p.m.; Crespi vs. Orange Lutheran, 4:30 p.m.; Fairfax vs. El Segundo, 6 p.m.; Chino Hills vs. Loyola, 7:30 p.m.
Opening games on Tuesday: Alemany vs. Windward 4:30 p.m.; Brentwood vs. Corona Centennial, 6 p.m.; Sierra Canyon vs. La Canada, 7:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, Mater Dei will face Santa Monica at 4:30 p.m.
Quarterfinals are set for Wednesday and Thursday. The semifinals are Friday at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The championship game is Saturday at 6 p.m.
Admission is $6.
