Boys’ basketball: Steve Smith will take over Windward program

Steve Smith, the athletic director at L.A. Windward and a former girls’ basketball coach for the school, has been selected to take over the boys’ program beginning next season.
Smith has been an assistant coach this season under Miguel Villegas, who announced he would not be returning as coach. Windward enters this week only one game behind Sierra Canyon for first place in the Alpha League and returns most of its players for next season.
Smith was the head coach for the men’s team at Dominican College, an NAIA school, from 1990-97.
