Football: Banning becomes a factor again in Marine League
- Share via
Banning, pretty much forgotten in the Marine League in recent years, has returned to prominence this season.
The Pilots are 5-1 overall and won their league opener last week with a 10-9 victory over San Pedro.
They face Carson on the road on Friday, and a win would put them on a collision course to face Narbonne for the league title on Oct. 30, Halloween eve.
Coach John Aponte has worked hard to get the Pilots back into competitive mode. Banning has won 11 City Section championships, second only to Carson’s 12.
Junior running back Joel Villarreal has rushed for 899 yards and six touchdowns. He had 132 yards in 20 carries against San Pedro.
