The largest crowd to see a high school football game in Southern California this season _ 11,352 _ were at Angel Stadium on Friday night to see Mater Dei come away with a 28-21 victory over Servite in a Trinity League opener.
The Monarchs provided Coach Bruce Rollinson, in his 25th season, an emotional pregame recognition for his service.
The star players really came through to help Mater Dei improve to 6-0. Washington-bound Jonathan Lockett caught six passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Justin Allen ran for 244 yards in 28 carries and scored two touchdowns. Chase Forrest completed nine of 12 passes for 175 yards. Malik McMorris had two sacks and some tough running inside.
Servite (3-3) got 100 yards rushing and 184 yards passing from Travis Waller.
It remains to be seen whether any team will be able to defeat St. John Bosco in Trinity League play, but the Monarchs and Braves appear to be on a collision course to meet on Nov. 1.
