Serra League play opens tonight and the marquee matchup is in Sherman Oaks, where Notre Dame hosts Bishop Amat in a showdown of evenly-matched teams.
Three Serra League teams are in The Times’ Top 25 poll, including #15 Notre Dame (4-2) and #16 Bishop Amat (5-1), who will be vying for spots in the Pac-5 Division playoffs.
Notre Dame is coming off a wild 46-43 loss to Chaminade and is led by all-purpose back Koa Farmer, who has 533 combined rushing and receiving yards with 12 touchdowns. Quarterback Grant Kraemer has thrown for over 1,100 yards and nine touchdowns.
Bishop Amat will try to avenge last year’s 49-28 defeat and also spoil the Knights’ homecoming. Koa Haynes is the catalyst of the Lancers’ offense with 17 touchdown passes and two interceptions and he has also run for three scores.
Alemany, one of the top teams in the Southern Section, is up next for both schools so each wants to start off league with a victory. Kickoff is 30 minutes away so check back for scoring updates during the game.
