Marlins’ Dan Jennings out of hospital after being hit in head by liner

Miami left-hander Dan Jennings was released from a Pittsburgh hospital Friday, a day after he was hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of the Pirates’ Jordy Mercer. Jennings was put on the seven-day concussion list and was to fly back to Florida later Friday. “The good news is he was cleared to fly home,” Marlins Manager Mike Redmond said. “That tells you a lot about how he’s doing.”

San Francisco put first baseman Brandon Belt back on the seven-day concussion list, six days after he was activated and two days after he experienced headaches.

The Cubs acquired right-hander Jacob Turner from Miami for two minor league pitchers.

Texas activated catcher Geovany Soto, on the DL since July 21 because of a groin strain, and designated former Angels pitcher Jerome Williams for assignment.
