Kyle Busch dominates in NASCAR Nationwide win in Phoenix

AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Not even a speeding penalty could slow Kyle Busch on his way to a dominant win Saturday in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.

Busch led 142 of the race’s 200 laps in his No. 54 Toyota. Brad Keselowski finished second, Justin Allgaier took third and Trevor Bayne was fourth.

It was Busch’s fifth Nationwide win at the one-mile Phoenix track and his 52nd Nationwide victory overall.

Starting on the pole for the Dollar General 200, Busch drew a speeding penalty during an early pit stop that dropped him to 23rd in the field. But Busch quickly roared back through the pack to retake the lead.

“We could have thrown it away, but we persevered there,” Busch said.

With about 50 laps left in the race, Keselowski gambled by staying on the track -- and assuming first place -- while Busch and other leaders made another pit stop.

But that strategy didn’t work as Busch passed Keselowski a few laps later and never again relinquished the lead.

“When you have that much speed,” Keselowski said of Busch, “you’re pretty much immune to strategy.”
