Giants punter Steve Weatherford says he’s fine after scary car crash

New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford was involved in an early morning car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike, but escaped uninjured.
Weatherford recounted the accident on his Instagram page, saying he totaled his rental car after hydroplaning and slamming into the median around 3:30 a.m. EDT Monday. Even though the crash left him shaken, Weatherford said he felt "so incredibly blessed" that he managed to walk away "without a scratch."
Weatherford was making the late-night drive after his initial travel plans to Giants organized team activities were altered because of bad weather. He was at home in San Diego this week after his wife gave birth to their daughter, and he visited them in the hospital Sunday.
He then tried to hop on a plane to Newark, N.J., only to be told all flights into Newark International Airport were canceled because of thunderstorms. Rerouted to Washington, D.C., Weatherford rented a car to drive the rest of the way. He then drove into a "massive body" of standing water on the turnpike that caused him to lose control of the car. A photo Weatherford posted of the car shows substantial damage to the rear of the vehicle.
After the crash, Weatherford got a ride from New Jersey state troopers to his home in Hoboken, N.J.
"Now I'm home shaking like a leaf, trying to pack my bag to go to practice," Weatherford wrote. "I'm so thankful to even be walking right now."
