“Weavings of War: Fabrics of Memory”
Textile artworks depicting the profound effects of modern warfare make their only West Coast appearance in San Jose. An embroidered “memory cloth” from South Africa and a Hmong “story cloth” are among the works created mostly by women from Central and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and South Africa. Companion exhibits include “Woven Witness: Afghan War Rugs” and “Patriot Art,” which includes the 9/11 Memorial Tapestry.When, where: Through Sept. 23 at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, 520 S. 1st St. Opening reception 3 p.m. July 22.
Admission: $6.50, free for kids 12 and younger.
