Monterey Park : Desk Officers Out on Patrol

About 20 officials with desk jobs in the Police Department--including Chief Dan Cross--will go out on patrol once a month.
The “back to the streets” program was begun on Wednesday by Cross, who said it would be an effective way to bolster the patrol force and deter street robberies. It also will reacquaint desk officers with patrol procedures, he said.
The officers, some of whom haven’t patrolled for 10 years, will be in plainclothes, driving unmarked cars between noon and 8 p.m., which is the peak robbery time, Cross said.
