Police Workweek

Re “LAPD Officers Urge Approval of 3-Day Week,” Feb. 12: Simple math shows that they would only be working 36 hours per week. Most people in the private sector would relish a week that short.
I have another proposal. Let them work the standard 40 hours. They can divide the time up however they like. For every 1,000 patrol officers this would give the city 4,000 more man-hours on the street protecting the public. While I appreciate the work these officers do, we need to find a way to have more, not fewer, officers on the street.
