UCLA cracks top 10 in both major college football polls

UCLA didn’t play its best game of the season Saturday night against Cal but a solid victory and a series of shakeups helped lift the Bruins into the top 10 in Sunday’s Associated Press and USA Today coaches’ polls.
UCLA climbed two spots to No. 9 in the AP and three spots to No. 10 in USA Today’s index.
Alabama remained atop the AP poll followed by Oregon, Clemson and Ohio State. The coaches poll has a top four of Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State and Clemson.
Stanford, last week’s No. 5, fell eight spots to No. 13 in both indexes after Saturday’s loss at Utah.
The Southeastern Conference set an AP record with eight schools ranked this week. Joining Alabama are LSU (6), Texas A&M (7), South Carolina (11), Missouri (14), Georgia (15), Florida (22) and Auburn (24).
For the first time in Big 12 history, Baylor is the highest school ranked in the conference as the Bears moved to No. 12 in both polls.
The AP poll is not used in the formula used to determine the BCS standings, which will debut next Sunday. The USA Today poll is part of the formula along with the Harris Poll and a computer component.
